The Cost of Incarceration

Thomas Sowell takes on some liberal ideas about prisons in this column. I think the most interesting statistic is that while it cost £1.9 billion to keep their prison system running, but the financial cost alone of crime in Britain was £60 billion. While it may not be accurate to say that every pound invested in prisons equals thirty pounds saved, surely there is an argument in there for keeping dangerous criminals locked up.
